Day 6: Arrive London

We enjoyed the pastry shop so much yesterday morning we couldn’t wait to return this morning! We were going to catch the Eurostar train back to London after breakfast and ate earlier today and were disappointed to find the quiche was not out yet but we made do with the other selections. Cab was a little late picking us up but we made it on time to catch the train and enjoy the 2 hour ride back to London. Our rooms were ready when we arrived. I had reserved 3 superior rooms but Stacy & Drew’s wasn’t as large as the other 2 so I asked them about it and they got a complimentary upgrade after I told them tomorrow is Drew’s birthday. A couple days ago I had a crown come loose so my first order of business was to find a dentist to fix it since I didn’t want to do so in Paris with the language barrier. The concierge at the hotel told me there was a dentist just down the street, so Tim and I headed there while the rest had a very expensive lunch at the hotel. 125 GBP later ($200 US) my tooth is fixed. We decide to go shopping this afternoon to make sure we have time to get some in. Thanks to the recommendation of my cruising friend Sue who lives in London, we go to Primark to clothes shop and score a lot of bargains.

We go back to hotel to get Tim and go to dinner. I had reserved an Italian restaurant near our hotel for tonight and it was very good. Drew is becoming an adventuresome eater! She decides to try something new again tonight and orders a squid appetizer which she like fairly well, but not as much as the escargot last night. We walk across the street and take the “London By Night” bus around town to see the sights and get off at the Tower of London for the Ceremony of the Keys. Again, a very enjoyable night watching the 700+ year old traditional ceremony. We walk across the Tower Bridge and then taxi back to hotel for another grand day in the record books.

  1. Oh my God you will not believe what I'm going to tell you. Sue and Steve also went to the same ceremony as you tonight. They went with friends from California. I can't believe you were both there at the same time. I was just emailing her to ask if you're going to get together while you're there and just said you were in Paris but now I'll go back and tell her where you were tonight. She's going to freak out. What a small world. She told me this morning if it was good we would all go when I come back to London.

You sound like you are having a great time. Glad you had your tooth fixed so now you'll be able to get on the ship with a clear head.

Drew is turning into a real world traveler and trying all different foods is quite daring. I wouldn't do that so more power to her.

    Once again, love to all.
