Day 7: Drew’s Birthday

We slept in a little bit this morning since we knew it would be a long day. Our hotel comes with breakfast so after a late breakfast we had a surprise for Drew on her birthday. Stacy had helped me make a DVD with pictures we had of Drew since birth and we watched it. All of us were crying by the time it was over. I had video taped family members wishing her a Happy Birthday for the end and then her family singing Happy Birthday to her. We also had a stash of birthday cards for her and the hotel even left her a card this afternoon while we were out. She had found a tiara yesterday while we were out shopping to wear today.

We then made a mad dash for the London Eye and took the 30 minute ride. It was a little overcast but we still had wonderful views over London.

Buckingham Palace as seen from London Eye:

Took a cab back to Buckingham Palace for our stateroom visit. We all thought the Palace was wonderful. Couldn’t take photos inside but we all were just blown away at the beauty of the place and the great job the headset tour did explaining what we were seeing. We were able to take a few in the gardens.

It’s just wrong to go a day without chocolate, and today we got our first fix of the day in the afternoon! Don’t know why the hotel didn’t have brownies or something chocolate on the breakfast bar.

Tim and Drew went back to hotel for afternoon nap while Stacy and I did a little more shopping. Not the idea place to dine, but for convenience we3 had dinner reservations at our hotel. I had arranged for them to bake her birthday cake and it was great. Once again she was embarrassed at dinner when they brought it out and sang to her. At a restaurant in Edinburgh they gave her a child’s menu but the real embarrassment there was the balloon they brought her and insisted she take. Last night when they brought out our main courses they brought her a plate with only one ravioli on it. I was pretty tired when I wrote yesterday’s blog but the restaurant was a wonderful family place with a great staff where we had a lot of fun and good food.

After dinner we walked the short distance to the “Wicked” theatre where we enjoyed a wonderful musical. It was the most fabulous show we have ever been to with an unbelievable singer in the role of the Wicker Witch.

  2. The pictures of you on the Eye and your pictures from the Eye are beautiful. Love the one of Drew standing on a terrace or balcony or wherever she was standing. That one should be blown up.

Joy, I know I've said this a million times but I'd go to the ends of the earth if you were planning it.
Enjoy the cruise and stay clear of Joyce and Tom.

    Love to all.
